OUTLAW MESSAGE FOR PRIDE 2020
For so many reasons, it is a Pride month like no other. We cannot celebrate in the usual way, sharing spaces with our community and allies, but we will seek out different ways to mark Pride this month until we can all see each other again, in person.
At OUTLaw we encourage people to educate themselves in order to be the best LGBT+ ally you can be. The same applies for those of us who want to be allies to other communities. We encourage our friends and followers to learn about direct provision and the treatment and experiences of asylum seekers in Ireland. We urge people to learn about white privilege and to recognise how it infiltrates all of society. If you don’t know where to start, we direct you to:

- Pavee Point (particularly their work with LGBT+ travellers and Roma)
- MASI (the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland)

Here are details of some events we have organised for the coming weeks, with others in the pipeline. As usual, pre-registration is essential.
“Alieni Juris – an Outlaw: The Law and Intersex People“
Dr Tanya Ní Mhuirthile, Assistant Professor in Law at DCU, will speak to us about the interaction between the Intersex community and the law. She will also introduce us to the Irish Research Council funded research project “Mapping the Lived Experience of Intersex in Ireland” for which she is the Principal Investigator. This project will interview Irish intersex people about their lives, as well as their families, and the medical professionals who treat them and will map this experience onto Ireland’s legal obligations to identify the strengths and weaknesses in protections for this marginalised and vulnerable community.

“Having no use at all for Men“
Join Dr Mary McAuliffe, assistant professor and lecturer in Gender Studies at UCD, for a fascinating and insightful lecture entitled “Having no use at all for men” exploring same sex relationships among Irish revolutionary women and feminist activists, and those who fought for women’s suffrage.

OUTLaw in Conversation: Coffee Morning
Communication and keeping in touch with your network are more important than ever. This session will be an opportunity for our network to connect, share and generate ideas. The event will take the form of a discussion with all participants encouraged to actively get involved. We will be asking people to turn on their cameras and microphones as we come together in ‘break-out’ rooms to discuss all things Pride (from tips on keeping in touch with your network to your top Pride Netflix recommendations!) and we hope that you can join us on the day.
